R-Sport Stage 3 Intercooler designed from the ground up using fully CAD designed high flow cast alloy end tanks and a huge bespoke 27-inch long x 8 inch high x 3.5 inches deep (90mm) core, this brand new design will outperform all of the competition.
The intercooler will be available from us directly via worldwide FedEx delivery or from many of your local Ford Tuning stores.
What does the Intercooler do?
The original Ford intercooler has limited performance cooling capabilities, an uprated version will lower inlet temperatures to a greater level allowing more dense air with more oxygen to enter the engine. The very clever ECU in the New ST Focus Mk3 ST can sense this and for every degree of temperature lower will inject more fuel to create a MORE POWER. So lower temps = MORE POWER
The Back to Back Test.
(The large Graph shows the same vehicle running on the road in 4th gear back to back with the best cooler on the market (COBB) which uses a GARRETT 24 x 8 x 3.5-inch core)
The Car
Pumaspeed’s ST250 with the following modifications
Focus RS Mk2 19 inch wheels (235/35 Section Tyres)
Milltek Cat-Back Exhaust
Milltek Sports Catalyst (200 Cell)
R-Sport Cold Air induction System (similar in design to the Forge Motorsport and COBB system)
R-Sport Large Bore Intercooler Pipe system
Pumaspeed Stage 1 Hybrid Turbocharger
SCT X3 Tuner with Unleashed 370lb-ft and 305 Bhp remap
The Conditions
Ambient air temps were identical at 15 degrees C or 59 Degrees F for both control runs

Public Highway
The Results
Using the SCT Livelink software the Pumaspeed test team was able to fully data-log the vehicle in real-time and more importantly in ‘Real Life On the Road Conditions’ .The graphs were overlayed perfectly rev for rev and scaling temp for temp.
The Dark Blue line – R-Sport Stage 3 intake temp
The Light Blue line – GARRETT Core Intake temp.
The Conclusion
As is quite clear from the results shown, the temps of the very expensive GARRETT intercooler and the temps of the R-Sport Stage 3 unit are pretty much identical. The GARRETT did drop down one more degree F for a split second but it did start to climb earlier than the R-Sport unit.
The Costs.
Typical R-Sport Stage 3 Intercooler R8950
Typical GARRETT Cored Intercooler R14000+
Garrett the price makes the choice very simple, R-Sport Stage 3 every time
Another Test was carried out at near freezing conditions
The R-Sport Stage 3 intercooler ran an amazing 3 degrees C 5.4 degrees F above ambient on FULL BOOST and 7500 revs!
Blue line = Intake Temps
Red line = Outside / Ambient Temps
Light Blue Line = RPM
Red Vertical Line = 7588 revs and full Boost and 5.4 F difference (3 degrees C)
The Unique design.
Unlike many other designs of intercoolers the new stage 3 unit sits just under the cross member and 2 inches away from the water radiator which is crucial part of the Focus ST eco Boost power delivery system.
None of the R-Sport Stage 3 Intercooler is hidden behind the Cross member so the frontal area of the cooler is in direct full flow. It sits more forward toward the bumper therefore all the air is utilized to create the ultimate cooling process.
Will the production version of the cooler be fitted with the all-important scoops?
The prototype version you may have seen on the forums did not have scoops fitted, the production models shown now all have the scoops fitted The unit is virtually air locked with all the frontal area ramming air directly into 100% of the cooler, there is little chance for air to escape. We don’t think it will make much difference to cooling whether they are fitted or not, let’s face it 3 degrees above ambient temperature, that’s pretty much as good as it gets! However, production models will feature the scoops as we don’t want you to feel left out.
