Brand new as seen on our Facebook, MAXD has now developed a “Crackle” map for the ST180.

MAXD originally developed this WRC-style crackle mapping for VAG applications and has proved very popular over the last 2 years with Golf GTI and S3 owners. MAXD has engineered these “crackle” maps very differently from previous ones you may have seen running on Renault Clio’s and Megane 225’s.

Instead of adding loads of extra fuel like the rudimentary Renault maps, the MAXD ST180 crackle map uses very specific ignition settings and uses the fuel already in the combustion chamber. Furthermore, to prevent the map from popping and banging non-stop, it has been engineered to make the crackling sound between a specific midrange rpm. This enables you to drive through town normally without attracting unwanted attention and giving you control of when the car crackles.

The map also features a race-style Hard Cut Limiter to add to that true race car feel.

The MAXD tuning device allows you total control of the vehicle’s engine calibration. This Stage 2r version of the device contains the first 5 engine calibrations to choose from, not just one like other tuning boxes.

Testing has shown the MAXD recalibration to be one of the safest custom tuning solutions available.
The Staged mapping will suit any European Spec ST180 (Europe, Australia, and Hong Kong markets) and will work to deliver a very safe and reliable increase.

Stage 1   –  Up to 225 bhp with no hardware modifications.( suits 95-98 octane fuels )
– Smooth progressive low boost factory-like calibration, a perfect addition giving extra drivability and econom for 95 octane fuel
Stage 1R –  Up to 235 bhp with no or minimal hardware modifications, up to 240bhp with extensive modifications
– More aggressive high torque 98 octane calibration, a perfect addition giving extra drivability and economy. (Suits better quailty fuels 97 plus octane)
Stage 2   –  Up to 235 bhp with some Stage 2 bolt on Air Filter, Intercooler and Exhaust modifications.
– A very well mannered drive with a good initial hit of torque and a smooth progressive lift in power for 95 octane fuel
 Stage 2R  – The most powerful Stage 2 software on the market offering up to 245 bhp and 370Nm.
– Dwarfing the competition and giving you the full potential of the standard turbo when used with the full list of simple bolt on parts and high grade 97 plus octane fuels.

Stage 3R–  Up to 300 bhp with Pumaspeed X-37 Hybrid Turbo, Quickspool Tubular Manifold and all available bolt on hardware.

The Mapping device – faqs:

 Can the box be used to turn my vehicle back to the original stock file at any time?
Yes, the box allows you to store the original file and then allows you to install your stock mapping any time you need.

What happens to my stock mapping?

This will be read and will be saved on the Laptop.

What if my car is already mapped?

Your ECU will be read by the software and this will be treated as the stock mapping for your car.

Is the software easy DIY install on and off the car?

Yes, the custom software is very simple to use and runs on any Windows Laptop.

Can I upgrade the maps to a higher level?

Yes, the benefit of the system is that MAXD can easily send you upgraded files from the above list.

Can MAXD write a custom file to suit my list of mods?

Yes, the in-house calibration specialists at MAXD can tailor a map to suit you and your driving style. Whilst MAXD research and development does run through most case scenarios, there will always be the requirement for that one-off special.

Can I use the device on more than one vehicle?

No, the MAXD device locks itself to your vehicle’s VIN number and cannot be used on another vehicle.
Can I use different fuels?

MAXD maps are available for 95 RON, 98RON, and 102RON high-quality fuel. We will make them freely available but warn that running the wrong fuel to mapping combination can be dangerous

Does the Mapping affect the immobilizer?

MAXD maps will not affect the vehicle immobilizer in any way.
Can I download a stock map?

If your car has already been mapped elsewhere and you want to return it to standard, we can provide a standard tune.

Do we think it’s the best?

The answer is YES. Internet forum owner testing has shown the Stage 2 mapping to be higher powered than every other branded mapping, including some very well-known names.

Take a second to read through the graphs provided, there are few statistics we should draw your attention to:

– The 270 bhp Stage 3 Pumaspeed software only uses 1.45 bar of boost (this is no more boost than an std Factory Road car)
– This boost is delivered from 2600 revs to 7400 revs with no fluctuation.
– The AFR’s (all-important air-fuel ratio mix) hit a perfect balance between power and safety.
– The power delivery is linear and drivable with no surprise power or torque spikes to set the wheels spinning out of control.

Software recalibration doesn’t come any better than this!
